Amazing Rinjani
Amazing Rinjani, based in Senaru, Bayan – in the northern part of Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, serves as a central organization for porters and trekking guides within the Rinjani National Park. Established in 1992 with only 10 members, it has since expanded to include over 55 porters and trekking guides, reflecting the growing popularity of Mount Rinjani as a premier tourist destination on Lombok Island. Today, the organization operates from Senaru Village under the leadership of Mr. Eki as its organizer.
In January 2003, the Gunung Rinjani National Park Project (GRNPP) was rebranded as the Gunung Rinjani National Park: Rinjani Trek Ecotourism Programme (RTEP) to emphasize its evolving focus on sustainable tourism and conservation. Earlier, in July 2002, NZODA, a key partner, was renamed NZAID. Since October 1999, the program has operated from its office in Mataram, Lombok’s capital.
As part of its commitment to fostering collaboration, an occasional newsletter was introduced to connect stakeholders and share updates on Rinjani’s conservation efforts. These stakeholders include national, regional, and local governments, local and international NGOs, conservation groups, the broader tourism industry, village communities, and both Indonesian and international visitors.
Amazing Rinjani continues to play a pivotal role in promoting sustainable ecotourism, protecting the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Mount Rinjani, and supporting the livelihoods of local communities.
